For my Shortform Production final project, I conceptualized and directed a dance video from start to finish—serving as director, producer, co-cinematographer, co-editor, and animator. The assignment involved finding a real client and creating promotional content tailored to their needs. Having danced with a K-pop/Hip-hop club myself, I reached out to them and secured a collaboration centered around their Fall 2025 showcase, themed “Street Xcuse Fighter.”

I began by developing a production book and brainstorming the visual direction. Inspired by the theme, I envisioned a dynamic one-take sequence that seamlessly transitioned between angles using a wide lens. But for 30sec trailer, I decied to use montage to show that. My approach included high-angle shots to highlight expressive faces, wide frames with subtle distortion to intensify the mood, and low-angle perspectives to emphasize the dancers’ power and presence.

After that, I tailed and mapped out my camera movement for one-shot . But for the 30-second trailer, I opted for a dynamic montage structure. This approach allowed me to distill the energy of the full performance into a rapid, impactful sequence, using rhythmic cuts to build excitement and showcase the choreography’s highlights.

After storyboarding the camera moves and coordinating closely with the dancers on choreography, location, and timing, we filmed on November 2nd. I’m deeply grateful to my talented collaborators: Haiqi Wang, who partnered with me as cinematographer and VFX editor; Christine Lee for her original music design; and all the incredible dancers who brought energy and heart to this project. It was an inspiring and unforgettable creative journey ❤️
